Samora’s sidewalk stories

January 20, 2026

Samora Chapman is a writer, photographer and filmmaker whose speciality is getting under the skin of the city he lives in – eThekwini. He finds beauty and humanity in the spaces between hard urban edges.

Samora holds a BA in Politics and English from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and developed a passion for photography while assisting renowned documentary photographer Paul Weinberg.

“I’m committed to stories of social cohesion, the resilience of the human spirit and environmental awareness. I love art, music and surfing. I do social documentary work for various foundations, NGOs and corporate clients. I have always been fascinated by the informal economy and the industrious characters eking out a living on forgotten edges of the sidewalk.”
