If you live in Durban you’ll know Bryan Hiles. The 42-year-old actor is a favourite in local theatre productions. His characters (Buttons and Wishy-Washy spring to mind) are memorable, funny and endearing.
Offstage Bryan is as warm and witty. He recently did a great one-man show in his backyard and posted it online. He scripted it, built the set and filmed it. It is a clever tribute to the magic of theatre and a reminder of how many people it involves, everyone from backstage hands to lighting specialists.
“I miss the energy of audiences, but I am not sad. I have had the chance to do beautiful shows. This is not the end of structured theatre. Maybe a huge hiatus. Life is going to be different. We have to adapt, but people still need stories.”
